Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) said Thursday that the Democratic primary was “rigged” to allow Hillary Clinton to win, and she called for reform in the party.
CNN host Jake Tapper asked Warren about the report by former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile alleging Clinton’s control of the party during the primary. Warren agreed it was a problem, granting that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) and his supporters are justified in not trusting the DNC after he lost the primary under such circumstances.
“This is a real problem, but what we’ve got to do is, Democrats now, we’ve got to hold this party accountable,” she said. “When Tom Perez was first elected chair of the DNC, the very first conversation I had with him is to say, you have got to put together a Democratic Party in which everybody can have confidence that the party is working for Democrats, rather than Democrats are working for the party.”
She said the test facing Perez will be to ensure a fair process for Sanders, who is not a Democrat, and his “representatives.”
