Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., backed out of a White House budget meeting with President Trump Tuesday due to a Trump tweet beforehand.
In his tweet, the president criticized liberal policies and expressed doubt that Republicans and Democrats could come to a deal.

In response, the Democratic leaders released a joint statement saying they will not work with President Trump, electing to negotiate with Republican leaders Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., instead.
