The former deputy chief of staff for Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) has come forward and accused him of making unwanted sexual advances toward her and inappropriately touching her.
Deanna Maher, who ran an office for Conyers from 1997 to 2005, said that the Democratic congressman made multiple unwanted sexual advances towards her, The Detroit News reported Tuesday.
Maher, 57 years old at the time, claimed that she stayed in the job because she needed it and she feared no one would hire her because of her age.
“I didn’t report the harassment because it was clear nobody wanted to take it seriously,” Maher said. “John Conyers is a powerful man in Washington, and nobody wanted to cross him.”
