In an unexpected turn of events (well, depending on whom you ask), the radical left has developed a bizarre new love affair with Louis Farrakhan, the bombastic, sexist, racist, anti-Semitic, anti-LGBTQ leader of the Nation of Islam. In the span of just weeks, progressive leaders — and even two Women’s March organizers — have defended Farrakhan in the media, and now, even a longtime Democratic lawmaker is getting in on the game.
In an interview with the Daily Caller, Chicago Rep. Danny Davis — a staple of Chicago’s South Side — defended his friendship with the controversial (to put it mildly) Muslim leader, as though they were just buddies who sometimes met for golf and a few beers.
“I’m a pretty global individual. So I know Farrakhan, I know the Middle East question, I know the Jews and Farrakhan — I know all that, but that’s not what I spend all my time focused on,” Davis said.
“I know Farrakhan, been knowing him for years and years and years and years and years, and every once in a while some writer or somebody will I guess try to think of something to say about Farrakhan, but nah, my world is so much bigger than any of that. I don’t have time for that. I deal with it, you know, when it comes but nah, that’s not a real part of my focus,” he continued.
